Introduction #
The Data Govern section of xGen allows to view the data catalog, data lineage and to preview the data saved in the data warehouse.
All the data assets like data models, source objects and data containers like destinations, sources, connections and pipelines can be viewed in the Data Govern section.
Inside every object there are sub sections having different functionalities.
1. Schema: This section shows the available columns, descriptions and data type in the source table or model.

2. Lineage: This section shows the lineage of any object.

3. Data Preview: Allows to preview of the raw data or create visualizations for tables and models.


4. Data Profile: Information regarding the data statistics can be viewed in this section at table or column level.

5. Data Quality: Data quality checks can be defined and run at a table or column level.

6. Custom Properties: Custom properties can be set in this section.

7. Notes: Users can create and view notes.

Create Data Quality Checks #
Data Quality Rules in xGen allows user to perform automated checks on their data. There are pre-defined data quality rules and sub-rules in xGen which performs comprehensive checks on the data to ensure its accuracy, completeness, consistency and completeness.
Each of the above-mentioned data quality rules and subsequent sub rules can be performed at both table and column level. Once the data quality rules have been set, the system performs the necessary checks and alerts the user of the status of the data.
To create Data Quality rules:
1. Click on the Govern menu option, on the main navigation bar on the left side of your screen.
2. Select a data model or source table from the Data Models node or Source Tables node.
3. Navigate to Quality tab and click on +Add
.
4. Select ‘Column’ level data quality rule or ‘Table’ level data quality rule.
5. Select relevant field if Column level data quality rule is to be created.
6. Select the ‘Rule Category’ and the subsequent ‘Rule Name’ from the drop down list.
7. Enter all the required parameters.
8. Enter a name and a description and click on Apply
.
9. Click on Save
and Run
the Data Quality check.
Edit Data Quality Rule #
1. Click on the Govern menu option, on the main navigation bar on the left side of your screen.
2. Select a data model or source table from the Data Models node or Source Tables node, where data quality rule has to be edited.
3. Navigate to Quality tab and select the data quality rule to edit.
4. Click on Edit Rule
button.
5. User will be able to only edit data quality rule description, values and table parameters.
6. Click on Apply
and then on Save
.
Delete Data Quality Rule #
1. Click on the Govern menu option, on the main navigation bar on the left side of your screen.
2. Select a data model or source table from the Data Models node or Source Tables node, where data quality rule has to be edited.
3. Navigate to Quality tab and select the data quality rule to delete.
4. Click on Delete
and then on Save
.
Tags, Domain and Classification #
Create Tags, Domain and Classification #
1. Click on the Settings menu option, on the main navigation bar on the left side of your screen. Select Admin Settings
and navigate to Data Categories.
2. Type the tag name (eg. ‘Source Data’) that needs to be created in Setup Tags dialog box and press ‘Enter‘ key. Click on Save
.
3. Similarly type the domain and classification name in the respective dialog box and press ‘Enter‘ key. Click on Save
.
Assign Tags, Domain and Classification #
1. Click on the Sync menu option, on the main navigation bar on the left side of your screen. Click on Show Details
button to open a sync of choice. Click on Edit
button. Click on the Tags
button and choose a tag from the drop down.
2. Similarly, tags can be assigned on Models. Navigate to Models, click on Show Details
button to open a model of choice. Click on Edit
button. Click on the Tags
button and choose a tag from the drop down.
3. To assign Domain, navigate to Govern and open a Data Model of choice. Click on Domain +
button and select a domain from the drop down.
4. To assign classifications, navigate to Govern and open a Data Model of choice. Click on Classification +
button and select a domain from the drop down.
Field level functions #
1. To assign classifications, tags and domains at field levels, navigate to Govern and open a Data Model of choice. Click on Schema
button.
2. Select the field of the choice and assign tags, classifications and domains along with additional features such as description, list of values, relations and notes.
Assign Owner #
1. Click on the Govern menu option, on the main navigation bar on the left side of your screen.
2. Select a data model or source table from the Data Models node or Source Tables node, where owner has to be added.
3. Click on + Owner
and select an owner / user from the drop down menu.
